Recognizing this Years’ NH Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year: Ann and Marc Davis Woods Without Gile - Springfield & Wilmot, NH
We are excited to welcome NH Tree Farmers to this well-managed forest in Springfield and Wilmot, NH. Tucked in next to the Gile State Forest, Ann and Marc Davis named their Tree Farm “Woods Without Gile”.
After purchasing the property in 2002, the Davises early activities focused on removing trees damaged by the 1998 ice storm as well as establishing a good access system throughout the property.
In the past 20 years, the Davises have conducted 4 timber harvests toimprove the timber quality and enhance the habitat diversity on their500+ acre property.
Working with their forester, Tim Wallace, the Davises have createdopenings across the property to regenerate the forest and provide youngforest habitat for wildlife.
The Davises established 8 miles of trails and, where possible, installed skidder bridges over brooks to minimize impacts on water quality. With a goal of ensuring that their Tree Farm remains a working forest in perpetuity, the Davises donated a conservation easement to the Ausbon-Sargent Land Preservation Trust in 2007.
