Earlier today, by a vote of 194 to 159 the New Hampshire House of Representatives failed to muster the two-thirds needed to override the Governor Sununu’s veto of House Bill 142 (Burgess BioPower bill). House Bill 142 sought to modify certain provisions of the power purchase agreement between this facility and EVERSOURCE. Its failure to become law creates a cloud of uncertainty about the future operation of this facility. As the state’s largest destination for low-grade timber (consuming over 750,000 tons/year), any disruption to this market will send a ripple through the entire industry and will impact forestry projects.

Currently, the owners of the facility are assessing the impact of today’s vote and options. The NHTOA will continue to monitor the situation and work to keep its members informed of any developments.
