Since 2022, The NH Timberland Owners Association (NHTOA) in Concord, NH has been working in partnership with the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension and the UNH College of Life Science and Agriculture to educate students in grades 7-12 about careers in forestry, wood technology, wildlife, natural resources, logging, forest engineering, technology, sawmill operations, etc. The success of the NH Forest Career Field Days and Field Trips have led to the development of the first in the nation Industry Recognized Credential for Forestry Technician endorsed by the Granite State Division of the Society of American Foresters. We have also developed two approved apprenticeship programs already attracting and employing the first two participants. To continue our work to introduce young men and women to career opportunities within the forestry, natural resources, conservation, and the forest products industry, we are hosting our 5th NH Forest Career Field Day on April 15, 2027, at Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown, NH. This is very much a hands-on experience showcasing 40 or more exhibitors representing the many career fields listed above. We extend an invitation to you and your students to attend this important event which will provide students a glimpse into one of New Hampshire’s largest industries. As educators and school counselors, you have the unique responsibility and ability to advise and teach students about the wide variety of job opportunities available to them.
