Course Content:
This workshop will give loggers a better understanding of forest management and appropriate applications of silviculture. Course content includes discussion/powerpoints on historical events, current status of New Hampshire forests, Silvicultural principles of New England, Forest types, landowner goals and objectives, tree growth/maturity/vigor, forest regeneration, wildlife habitat, harvesting systems, and loggers function in silviculture.

BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH.  Be prepard to walk in the woods.

Field Sessions will include:

  • Log scaling demonstration.
  • Log product selection - observation of log defects and prioritizing the most profitable log product.
  • Silvicultural field walk, discussion of management objectives, BMPS, and wildlife habitat.

Directions: From the South take Exit 17 off of I-93 and merge onto US-4W. At traffic circle take 1st exit to stay on US-4 W. Travel 2.5 miles, then keep right to get on US-3 N. Travel 3 miles and turn left, then turn left again into driveway. Building ooks like a residence.
From the north, take exit 22 off I-93 and follow US-127 S/US-3 S for 11.9 miles. Turn right and then left Destination on left. buildng looks like a residence.
