New Hampshire has a strong forest products industry. This industry is consistently one of the top three industries in the state, based on economic output. This $1.6 billion industry directly employs over 7,200 people and, in terms of total contribution (including multiplier effects), it supports over 12,800 jobs and generates $2.5 billion in economic output. The rolls of the New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association’s membership are a who’s who of the state’s forest products industry, which includes biomass (wood chip) power plants, eastern white pine sawmills, hardwood sawmills, spruce/fir sawmills, and small portable/custom sawmills. In addition to these wood processing facilities many of the leading support industries to these businesses are also NHTOA members. This includes consulting foresters, equipment manufacturers, lending institutions, and insurance companies.
