The New Hampshire Timberland Owners Education Foundation (NHTOEF) is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 tax-exempt charitable organization.

In 2001, a group of New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association (NHTOA) members organized the New Hampshire Timberland Owners Education Foundation as a means to support the NHTOA’s tax-exempt education, research, and outreach work. As a 501(c)3 corporation NHTOEF can accept gifts from other tax-exempt organizations (i.e. foundations, trusts, etc.) and all gifts to NHTOEF are 100 percent tax-deductible. Since its founding, individual, corporate, and foundation gifts to NHTOEF have provided hundreds of thousands of dollars of support to the NHTOA’s educational programs about sustainable forestry, timber harvesting safety, and wildlife/environmental management. In addition to training and educational programming these gifts also support critical research on timber harvesting economics, sawmill industry economics and the economics of open space to New Hampshire’s recreation economy. These studies illustrate the economic importance of managed forests, working lands and the businesses that make timberland ownership economically viable. Moreover, they also illustrate the impact tax (i.e. Current Use assessment), regulatory, and land use policies can have on New Hampshire’s economy.  (To download the report, click here.)

As the population of New Hampshire becomes more urbanized and less connected with the sources of their food, fiber, lumber, and power, the need for more education on the value of working forests grows. Gifts to NHTOEF support the NHTOA’s effort to meet this growing need.
